“Echoes fade and memories die: / Autumn frosts have slain July. / Still she haunts me, phantomwise, / Alice moving under skies / Never seen by waking eyes…”
I have loved “Alice in Wonderland” since I was five. It has since then been my favourite Disney movie of all time (sans “Nightmare Before Christmas” which I saw when I was six and also still love, but not nearly as deeply). Am I pissed off that Hot Topic stole my childhood and distorted it into something cool and trendy? Of course I fucking am! But I can’t be completely bitter, because I’ve gotten some sweet “Alice” merchandise out of it all. Anyways, I read both books some time in High School and that was the end of it all for me. I was even more hooked, and have been ever since (as evidenced by my Wonderland tattoos and my obsessive compulsive need to collect all things Alice).
And this is precisely what this post is dedicated to, my love of a little girl named Alice, the most beloved, lasting, and transcendent of all of Disney’s characters and more importantly, the legacy of Lewis Carroll.
My Alice themed shelf! Complete with journal, stickers, hand made shoes by the amazing Cassie-wa, serving dish, view master slides, American McGee’s Alice figurines, lipstick, nailpolish, Lolita-esque heart shaped sunglasses, and an Alice photo frame full of some beaming Exclusives.
A closeup of the awesome shoes Cassie-wa made for me. Also, a sticker provided by Plasticland Clothing, and Connikins personal business card with the words, “The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!”
Sadly these mints do not make you grow in size. I wish they did though, I could stand with being a little taller! My luck though, only my neck would grow.
A ginormous Alice poster and Three of Hearts cell phone holder. Special bonus: my Wolverine claws (part of my mini Wolverine shrine) and my creepy teddy bears! Not included: my Hugh Jackman autograph which isn’t in this album at all. But it exists, oh yes it does.
Free promotional poster bequeathed to me by my local comic book store. The poster is way cooler than the graphic novel series.
Creepy Alice retooling, printed out as a congratulations present on quitting my job. Also came with matching bookmarks!
Cover of Metal Hammer Magazine. If Tim Burton’s Mad Hatter had looked like this I would have probably liked the movie better.
White Rabbit insane asylum print and a water bottle designed with a manga style Alice in mind.
Pint glasses from the “Grimm Fairy Tales: Wonderland” series. From left to right, Cheshire Cat, Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter, Alice and Callie.
Cheshire Cat and Mad Hatter tumblers, gifted by my other Mommy! They give our kitchen a little bit of Alice fun.
A white rabbit plush and my “American McGee’s Alice” vorpal blade!!! Special bonus: Death and Sandman bookends, a plush unicorn named Sparkle Muffin, and a Sailor Moon alarm clock.
The vorpal blade in semi-action. Special bonus: various dinosaurs, N64, and SNES. Also my college diploma… Which is on the floor.
Urban decay themed eye shadow set.
The top part is a pop up… for absolutely no reason! But I like it, that and the Joker poster on our ceiling.
The eye shadows! All named after Alice places and characters. Ex. Jabberwocky, White Rabbit. Alice, etc. And they’re all glittery!
Alice makeup bag. I’ve gotten a total of three of these in the past few years, but I don’t care because they’re awesome and also rip really easily or get stolen. True story. Special bonus: Joker poker set, preschooler’s plush copy of the Necronomicon, and Tippi Hedren “Birds” Barbie doll.
But I save all the boxes the makeup bags come in because I love the artwork and they’re really useful.
I like using them to keep my Alice perfume in. I have Cheshire Moon, Mouse’s Long and Sad Tale, The Pool of Tears, Unicorn, Tiger Lily, etc, etc.
Alice jewelry. I used to have more, but a lot of it has broken over the years.
Disney World “Alice” parade costume. Looks great with black and white striped tights.
“American McGee’s Alice” costume. Just in time for the second game release.
Alice t-shirt collection! Three gifted by Pokey, one by Dippy. Zombies and drink me bottles and Cheshire cats, OH MY!
My floating bookshelf devoted to my Alice books that don’t weigh a billion pounds. Guarded over by the Cheshire Cat.
The Crème de la Crème of my collection, 1890 editions of both “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass” given to me by my wonderfully amazing boyfriend. ^^
A collection of various pictures and quotes from all over the world.
Crafting AND baking Alice style = my kind of perfection.
Found at Books of Wonder = the cutest Alice cover ever. The pictures inside are not nearly as adorable, but I’ll let that slide because the outside is squeetastic.
Really amazing pop-up version of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”.
The famous “you’re nothing but a deck of cards” scene. In 3-D!
The collected works of Lewis Carroll, gifted by my awesome boss Pietro. Over 1,000 pages of Carroll and one of the most gorgeous covers ever! I’ll even forgive the fact that it’s from B&N.
“The Annotated Alice”. I did a book report on Alice just for an excuse to buy it.
So I bought this book for the title and cover alone, but someday I’ll read it and I’m sure it’ll be amazing.
Another gift from Kenny. Perhaps my favourite illustrated edition because it’s done by the super talented Camille Rose Garcia.
Title page featuring the hookah smoking caterpillar.
The mad tea party, in which the riddle “Why is a raven like a writing desk?” is posed.
When I was little Alice made me want to play croquet. It’s definitely not as exciting as she makes it look.
If I could get my hands on some vampire bats with card wings I’d make sure to breed them for a living.
