Sango from “InuYasha” for Halloween 2005.
This costume was the most self-involved costume I have ever made, and sadly it only lasted a day due to my inferior sewing skills. My friend made the boomerang out of balsa wood, and I painted it tan and created the decorations using brown fabric, yellow thread, red beads, and Chinese knots that I bought from the local craft store.
The armour were children’s elbow and shoulder pads that I hot glued pink fabric and white ribbon to. The top and pants were two separate yoga stretch pieces, and I covered the seam of them with the red sash. The shoes were just ballet slippers that I sewed red fabric around. The shirt had this same red fabric glued to it to give the illusion of a kimono top, and the design on the shirt was an iron on I made from a still of a random “InuYasha” episode.
Finally, the sword I bought at a dollar store and painted to match Sango’s sword. I borrowed Kirara from a friend who went as Miroku this same year. We even won the couple’s costume contest at our high school, although no one knew who we were.
